The USS Arizona Memorial at Pearl Harbor. The surprise air raid on Pearl Harbor began at 7:55 am on Sunday, December 7, 1941. It ended at 9:45 am. More than 2,000 Americans were killed as a result of the attack. The Arizona lost 1,177 crewmen. A veteran is considered a Pearl Harbor survivor if they were within three miles of the attack.
