I just finished a major project that started December 19 of last year and officially wrapped production on August 11. I was the producer and project manager for the new audiobook, Dad, Here’s What I Really Need from You: A Guide for Connecting with Your Daughter’s Heart. The book was written and narrated by Dr. Michelle Watson, a Portland counselor who founded a program she calls The Abba Project — a group for fathers of teenage daughters or young women who get together to learn how to be more intentional in their girls’ lives. Michelle calls them “dialed in dads” who focus on better understanding their daughters and meeting their needs.
I was acquainted with Michelle through the radio station where she has a weekly show titled, The Dad Whisperer, which hits on a lot of the same themes as the book. I learned in mid-December that she was going to record the audiobook at our studios the week after Christmas. Someone mentioned that I had experience with audiobook production and that she should talk to me. We talked, hit it off, and agreed to work together.
It was a long road producing this title, but the result is an excellent creation Michelle should be very proud of and one that I’m appreciative to be associated with. Michelle has an infectious passion for the subject matter, and her enthusiasm propels the book forward. On a personal note, being the father of a precious little girl and having listened to the book a couple times, I’ve learned some things that will be very helpful in the years ahead. If you are the father of a daughter get the audiobook or the hard copy. You can learn more about Michelle here.
