The repertoire is building into a full set list! Today we go from Hawaii to Elvis Presley, though this song is from his Blue Hawaii movie. (Fun fact: Angela Lansbury played his mother in the film when she was 35.) The song is Can’t Help Falling in Love. It was released in 1961 and went to number two on the Billboard Hot 100. It was a concert staple for Elvis through the years and the last song he performed at his final show in June 1977, but in the movie his character sang it to his girlfriend’s grandmother on the latter’s birthday.
I’m not an Elvis fan, but Trevor suggested I learn this tune, taking advantage of the low G string on my new Kala. Can’t Help Falling in Love is a simple, pretty song:
Wise men say only fools rush in
But I can’t help falling in love with you
Shall I stay
Would it be a sin
If I can’t help falling in love with you
Like a river flows surely to the sea
Darling so it goes
Some things are meant to be
Take my hand, take my whole life too
For I can’t help falling in love with you
Like a river flows surely to the sea
Darling so it goes
Some things are meant to be
Take my hand, take my whole life too
For I can’t help falling in love with you
For I can’t help falling in love with you
It sounds great with the bass from the low G. The new Kala finally makes its debut on Tales of the Uke:
While I’ve also been working on a Beatles song, I’m starting the transition to Christmas music in preparation for the holidays and have been asked to perform in the music school’s holiday recital. Trevor would like to have something different musically at the show than multiple versions of Jingle Bells on the piano! Busy time…
